SAGA a skirmishes game in the Age of Vikings

All began in the 793 A.D. "Fierce, foreboding omens came over the land of Nothumbria. There were excessive whirlwinds, lightening storms and fiery dragons were seen flying in the sky..." The Anglo- Saxon Chronicle bring us the perfect beginning to a historic miniature game based on the state of endemic warfare developed in England til the 1066 A.D. This year is marked as the end of the Viking era in the Battle of Stamford Bridge where Harald Hardrada was defeated and killed. An exciting game that has hooked me to the miniature world again. All you need is a band of war mates (vikings, anglo-saxons, normans, welsh,...), 30-40 miniatures (28mm is the common scale) organized in units with a very simplified army listing, a surface to play on (the kitchen table!!) and dice, obviously the rule book and something to measure distances. The game system is a turn based actions that you use to activate your units acording to the results in your dice. Really easy if we take account of other wargames!
Not to extending too much, you can make an idea in this links:

My first game was with Rohirrim of GW simulating Anglo-Saxons:

Nowadays I'm playing with my Anglo-Danish warband, organized with Harald Hardrada miniature of GB manufacturers as warlord and four units, two of Hearthguards and two of Warriors with anglo-saxons, normans and vikings of crusader miniatures representing anglo-danes.

A Clash of warlords against Scots...

Ready to sell the Anglo Danish to collect an Irish warband...

Here they are:

Blood Bowl Vampire Team

This entry is dedicated to my first commissioned work, a Vampire team for a BB mate, he wanted it painted on a color scheme that he has seen on the web and his desires were orders. I have to acknowledge the superb original work, probably the better colors for Vampires on the pitch, even better than original GW colors.

BLOOD ON THE PITCH (1)

So this could begin with something like: "W***T***F***!!!! Jim!!!! The referee is running through the pitch... But if my eyes dont play tricks on me the ball has crossed the line of touchdown just at the end of the last turn of the second part!!!!!!!!!"
"Just what you say Bob!!! and Whoooaaaat's he going to whistle????? The ball has crossed the line and the player was holding the ball on his hands but his hands are out of his bodyyy!!!!"
"whooo whoooo!!! are you sure this hands aren't from the defensor???? "
...And things could be something like these in Blood Bowl, in fact use to be like these, if the match ends the sixteen turns (I meant the two teams have at least one player each on the pitch) the statistics probably will be bloody. Something more like a battle if you note.
And nothing far from this, because BB was invented to put an ending to never ending wars between all the fantastic races in the fantastic world of warhammer.
It was 1991, our band was made of three pairs of brothers, six mates between ten and fourteen years old that were too rough and tough of playing Lord of the Rings from I.C.E. rolegame. And that summer, one of us came with a new game... Some kind of extreme sport in a medieval warfare, it was played on an Astro-Granito pitch (represented by a polystyrene board), really amazing and there was the possibility to join star players and races from a fantastic World... It was a very special moment in my life when we begin to play this new game. It was the 2nd edition of BB, in a pair of months we had the Dungeon Bowl, Star Players and Companion Expansions...
And here you can see some pics of minis that have survive all these years.

Skavens, humans from the original 2nd edition (Diseños Orbitales)
Dark elves with the second color scheme, and metal wood elves. 2nd ed.
Orks, humans and dwarves from 2nd edition BB.
My favourite team all these years remains the Dark elves team from 2nd edition, but due to posterior rule modifications, I have implemented it with witches and assassins from late production.

The Lord Of The Rings. Then & Now.

It was in my twelve birthday anniversary when my parents bougth to me the Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Game of I.C.E. In that days I had not read the novels neither The Hobbit, I had played Hero Quest in its spanish edition and then I had seen boys of my school playing that new book based game...

Survival
In these days I used to buy Mithril Miniatures, they were my favourites, I can't remember what was the first mini I painted, but a couple of these figures, painted with Tamiya non acrylic paints, were found in my mother's house, still there are bags with soldiers that my nephews use to play where probably there are some of these "vintage" miniatures, and I don't want to go deeper or perhaps I will find some creature to riddle with...
Old Mithril Miniatures
Now I have to jump the warhammer years to continue with Mithril Miniatures, ten years more or less and all the techniques that I learnt with my Undead and Space Wolves armys bring me to this:

I know, you have seen this before...

This is the last Mithril mini I had painted in 2003

He lost his shield in the battle...

Then I begun to paint Games Workshop miniatures from the Lord of the Rings collection.

Ten years, a wedding and a birth after this is how Lord of The Rings fill my table...

New Gandalf!!!

And this is Elrond in the Battle of the Last Alliance

And that's all for now, I'll continue painting and showing my work here and if you are interested on buy something you have seen, you can contact with me in this blog or look for my auctions on ebay.

See you!
